about…

Miranda Westaway is a Brisbane born and based artist. Her practice explores the intersections of personal narrative, abjection, and the body. Through sculpture, installation, lens-based media, and painting, she combines hard and soft materials to blur the line between corporeal presence and abstracted form. Her work positions the body as both vulnerable and resilient, using material tension to evoke fragility, instability, and transformation. Drawing on physical and emotional residues, she creates spaces where boundaries between self and environment dissolve, inviting a confrontation with states of in-betweenness. Each work becomes a site of shifting identities, holding the viewer in moments of rupture, repair, and quiet transformation.

Westaway holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (with distinction) from Griffith University, Queensland College of Art and Design, majoring in sculpture. She was awarded Outstanding Academic Achievement from the college, along with the ArtsNational Brisbane River Young Arts Award for academic achievements. In recent years, Westaway has participated in several group exhibitions, including Undergrowth (invitational) 2025, and Second Rising (invitational) 2024.
